NGC 335 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 255 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxy NGC 336 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on October 9, 1885 by the American astronomer Francis Preserved Leavenworth .
