NGC 343 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 741 million light years from the Milky Way and about 155,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 344 and IC 1600 .
The object was discovered in 1886 by the American astronomer Frank Muller .
