NGC 343 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 741 million light years from the Milky Way and about 155,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 344 and IC 1600 .

The object was discovered in 1886 by the American astronomer Frank Muller .
