NGC 318 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Pisces on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 244 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 311 , NGC 315 , NGC 338 , IC 66 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on November 19, 1850 by the Irish astronomer Bindon Blood Stoney , an assistant to William Parsons .
