NGC 307 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 182 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light-years across. Together with six other galaxies, it forms the NGC 271 group ( LGG 13 ).
The Type Ia supernova SN 2008ee was observed here.
The object was discovered on September 6, 1831 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
