NGC 298 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Cetus south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 81 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across .
The galaxies NGC 293 and NGC 297 are located in the same area of ​​the sky .

The Type II supernova SN 1986K was observed here.

The object was discovered on September 27, 1864 by the German astronomer Albert Marth .
