NGC 282 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 305 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on October 13, 1879 by the French astronomer Édouard Jean-Marie Stephan .
