NGC 280 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Andromeda in the northern sky . It is an estimated 458 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 225,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on December 5, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
