NGC 257 is a spiral galaxy from the Hubble type Sc in the constellation fish on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 240 million light years from the Milky Way and about 135,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy NGC 250 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on December 29, 1790 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
