NGC 254 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Sculptor in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 72 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on September 28, 1834 by the British astronomer John Herschel .
