Antonio López Habas (born May 29, 1957 in Pozoblanco , Province of Córdoba ) is a Spanish football coach and former football player . Among other things, he coached the Bolivian national soccer team .
Player career
Antonio López Habas started his career as a footballer in his hometown Pozoblanco . In 1977 he moved to the youth team of Sevilla FC , for whose second team he played for a year. He then played for two years for the A-team of the Andalusians in the first division, where he was never able to prevail. He went to the second division Real Murcia with whom he made promotion to the Primera División in his first season. In the first year things went well for Antonio López and Murcia, but in the second first division year they were the last to be relegated.
The defensive player then went to runner-up Atlético Madrid , but he was only fifth with his new team the following season. He had to end his career very early, at the age of 29.
Coaching career
The beginnings
After a four-year break from football, Antonio López appeared as coach of the B-team of his last club, Atlético. He left the club from Segunda División B after a year. In the following two years he coached Las Rozas and Aranjuez - two other lower-class teams.
Bolivia
In 1993 Antonio López moved to Bolivia, where he became assistant coach of the national team . After a year he got the opportunity to take over the top Bolivian club Club Bolívar . But he left this after only a year because he and his team did not meet expectations. After an unsuccessful one-year stint at the Spanish second division club UE Lleida , he went back to his adopted home Bolivia. There he got the opportunity to become national coach, but after a year he dared to try again in Spanish professional football. With first division relegated Sporting, however, the promotion was clearly missed and in the end the team was to be found in midfield. This was followed by a second engagement at Club Bolívar, crowned by the runner-up championship.
The last few years
In recent years engagements followed at FC Granada and in the youth department of FC Valencia . After Claudio Ranieri's dismissal , he was head coach of the reigning Spanish champions until the end of the season. In the 2006/07 season he went to CD Tenerife . But even with the ambitious Canaries, he only achieved a place in the midfield. In the following season he moved back as a coach in the second tier and was assistant coach of Juan Ramón López Caro . In the middle of the second half of the season López Caro was dismissed due to continued failure in the promotion battle - Antonio López, on the other hand, was given the job of looking after the Galicians as head coach until the end of the season. After less than two months, Antonio López was dismissed as he even slipped into the relegation battle with Celta.
