The province of Córdoba ( Spanish Provincia de Córdoba ) is one of the eight provinces of the autonomous region of Andalusia in southern Spain . The province has an area of 13,771.31 km² and 782,979 inhabitants (January 1, 2019), 40 percent of whom live in the capital. The capital is Cordoba . The province comprises 75 municipalities, which have been combined into eight comarcas since 2003 .

The province of Cordoba is located in northern Andalusia in the Guadalquivir Valley . It borders the provinces of Málaga , Seville , Badajoz , Ciudad Real , Jaén and Granada .

By decree of March 14, 2003, the province of Cordoba, like all the provinces of Andalusia, was divided into comarcas ( districts ) with effect from March 28, 2003 .
