The province of Soria is a Spanish province in the east of the autonomous region of Castile and León . 88,636 inhabitants (2019) live in the province of Soria on 10,307.17 km². The capital is the city of the same name, Soria , near which are the ruins of the ancient city of Numantia .

geography

The province is located in the northern part of central Spain and borders the La Rioja region in the north, the province of Zaragoza in the east, the province of Guadalajara in the south, the province of Segovia in the southwest and the province of Burgos in the northwest .

Soria is a mountainous province in the Iberian Mountains. This is where the Duero River rises , the upper reaches of which runs through the province.

The province of Soria has the lowest population of all 50 provinces in Spain and with 8.6 inhabitants per km² also the lowest population density. About 40% of the residents live in the city of Soria. The province has 183 municipalities, about half of which have fewer than 100 inhabitants and only 12 have more than 1000 inhabitants.
