ISO 3166-2: ES

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of ISO 3166-2 codes for Spain contains the codes for the 17 Spanish autonomous communities (comunidades autónomas), 50 provinces (provincias) and two Spanish exclaves in North Africa (ciudades autónomas en el Norte de África).

The codes consist of two parts separated by a hyphen. The first part gives the country code according to ISO 3166-1 (for Spain ES), the second the code for the autonomous community, province or city.

The current country code was last updated in Newsletter II-1 of February 3, 2010 ( PDF ).

The current codes are available on the ISO website under #iso: code: 3166: ES .

The codes have been updated or revised a total of four times by the ISO (2000, twice in 2002 and 2010). In the first newsletter (ISO 3166-2: 2000-06-21) of June 21, 2000, a typo was corrected ( Santa Cruz de Tenerife ) and the alternative spelling of the regional official language was added in two provinces ( Girona and Lleida ).

In the fourth ISO 3166-2 announcement (ISO 3166-2: 2002-12-10) of December 10, 2002, an error in the assignment of the province of Balearic Islands (Baleares) to the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands was corrected.

In the newsletter II-1 (ISO 3166-2: 2010-02-03) of February 3, 2010, all autonomous communities that consist of only one province received a code different from the province. In addition, the Spanish toponyms of the objects in the autonomous communities of Galicia, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands have been replaced by Galician and Catalan, because these alone are official.
