economy
The most important branch of the economy is tourism . Some of the most popular holiday destinations in Spain are located along the Costa del Sol and Malaga airport ( IATA code: AGP) ranks fourth among all Spanish airports in terms of passenger traffic with 11,565,735 people (as of 2003).
Well-known vacation spots include Marbella and Torremolinos , some of which are still exclusive , whose concrete buildings have become symbols of the excesses of mass tourism. There is not so much mass tourism east of Málaga, Nerja and Torrox are popular holiday destinations here.
