Location of the Comarca Costa del Sol Occidental in Andalusia

The Comarca Costa del Sol Occidental ( West Sun Coast ) is one of the six comarcas in the province of Málaga . Like all comarcas in the autonomous community of Andalusia , it was established with effect from March 28, 2003. The comarca only has the function of planning regions for tourism and the development of sports facilities.

The comarca, which stretches along the Mediterranean coast in the west of the province, comprises 11 municipalities with 542,817 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013), i.e. almost a third of the provincial population.
