description

Benalmadena

The place Benalmádena is heavily dependent and shaped by tourism, which was massively promoted by the state government in the 1950s and 1960s. The reason for this was the good location on the Costa del Sol with its extensive sandy beaches. In Benalmádena, the back area of the beaches is now completely built up. The beaches include Playa La Viborilla , a pebble beach surrounded by rocks at the western entrance to the village, Playa Bil-Bil , a small sandy beach at the cultural center of the same name, and Playa Malapesquera , a sandy beach with several bays and water sports.

structure

  • The district of Benalmádena-Pueblo is the old town center, at the foot of the mountains of the Sierra de Mijas . One of the city's attractions is an old chapel, from which you have a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding area. It is even possible to see all the way to Malaga. The historic town center has white houses decorated with flowers that are typical of the region. This is a great contrast to a city that is otherwise more touristy.
  • Benalmádena-Costa is the tourist district of the place. It includes several hotels and the usual tourist facilities such as bars, restaurants and discos. There is also a port with apartments and a large park. The port ( Puerto Deportivo ) was named “Best Marina in the World” by a British property magazine in 1995. It offers space for around 1000 yachts.
  • The district of Arroyo de la Miel is a mixed area of tourist attractions, hotels and residential areas. It forms the actual center of the village a little inland from the sports harbor. This is where the Benalmádena train station and the Teleférico cable car valley station are located . In the vicinity there is a zoo ( Selvo Marina ) opened in 2003 with “Dolphinarium” and “Pinguinarium”.
