Location of the municipality | ||
Comares is a Spanish municipality in Andalusia in the province of Málaga . It is located 39 kilometers northeast of Málaga at an altitude of 703 meters in the Axarquía , the easternmost part of the province of Málaga. Comares is a typical white village with pre-Roman history. The Moorish era of Comares ended in 1487 when the village, which at that time was an important defensive point due to its strategic location, fell to the Christians. Comares is enthroned on a rock spur and offers panoramic views all the way to the coast. In addition to a parish church, there is a restored olive mill (now a hotel) and a castle. Comares is culturally known for the cultivation of the Verdiales , an early form of flamenco, which is celebrated with guitars, violins, tambourines, dancers and singers at fiestas.
