Ardales is a place and a municipality in the area (comarca) of Guadalteba in the Spanish province of Málaga . The 2500 inhabitants (as of 2019) live on an area of ​​107 km². The place is at the northern end of the Sierra de las Nieves .

The Cueva de Doña Trinidad Grund cave is a prehistoric site with rock paintings . In the place is the Museo de la Historia y las Tradiciones and the Centro de Interpretación de la Prehistoria de Ardales . The Ruinas de Bobastro , a sacred site carved into the rock, are evidence of Mozarabic architecture . Other attractions include the Castillo de la Peña and the Castillo de Turón at Río Turón over which the Romans built Puente Romano de la Molina leads.

The Caminito del Rey begins in the vicinity of Ardales and the place is located at the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Park .

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Remedios , dedicated to the Virgin of Los Remedios , dates from the 15th century and the Baroque Capuchin monastery ( Convento de los Capuchinos ) from the 17th and 18th centuries, near which is the Ermita de la Encarnación ( Hermitage of the Incarnation ).

The place was included in the famous city atlas Civitates orbis terrarum (Cities of the World) by Braun and Hogenberg .
