The white mountain village of Alcaucín is located in Andalusia in the Axarquía district of the province of Málaga in Spain. The village is about 54 kilometers northeast of Málaga and 24 kilometers north of Torre del Mar .
The local area of Alcaucín is located in the north of the Axarquía and borders in the east on the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama.
The name Alcaucín is of Arabic origin and means 'the arches'. The inhabitants of Alcaucín are called alcaucineños .

Attractions
- Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario . Plaza de la Constitución. Simple baroque church from the 18th century, right next to the town hall ( ayuntamiento ).
- Ermita de Jesús del Calvario . Calle Calvario. Pilgrimage chapel with cemetery from the 18th century.
- Fuente de los cinco canos . Calle La Fuente. This fountain, presumably of Arab origin, is right at the beginning of the village. It is considered one of the landmarks of Alcaucin.
- Castillo de Zalia . Ruins of the fortress of Zalia just outside the village on the road to Granada.
