history
Neolithic finds were made in the municipality , which can be attributed to the time between the hunter-gatherer cultures and the transition to sedentarism. Also Bronze Age pottery fragments were discovered. In antiquity the area was under Phoenician , later under Carthaginian influence; The most important find from this period is a ram (intended for sacrifice?) . In the Celtic , Roman and Visigothic times the fortress mountain was inhabited at times; the Romans built at least two country estates ( villae rusticae ) on the territory of the municipality. At the beginning of the 8th century the region became Moorish . In 1326 the battle of the Guadalhorce took place in the plain of Teba or Antequera , in which the troops of the Castilian king Alfonso XI. (ruled 1312–1350) remained victorious. As a result, Teba came under Christian rule ( reconquista ) in 1330 ; the area was given to the Order of Santiago and became part of the Kingdom of Seville . In the period that followed, a lot of construction activity began, initially only encompassing the approximately 25,000 m² area of the Burgberg; only from the 15th century did the place expand along the mountain flanks. At the end of the 15th century, the Jews were expelled from Spain on the basis of the Alhambra Edict of the Catholic Kings Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragón . In the years 1609 to 1615, Philip III. and his First Minister, the Duke of Lerma , the expulsion of the moriscos .
