history
It is assumed that the place was founded in the Islamic era of the region by descendants of the Berber tribe of the Bann Rabbah ( sons of Rabaah ) and that the name of the village comes from this.
The first settlers also built a fortress (which no longer exists today) on Monte Porón, from which they had a comprehensive view of the neighboring villages of Jubrique, Gaucín , Algatocín and Genalguacil. This enabled large parts of the valley of the Río Genal to be monitored and defended.
After the Christian conquest of the settlement, the land passed into the hands of the House of Medina-Sidonia .
An existing historical building is the parish church of San Sebastián, which was built in the first half of the 18th century and later rebuilt several times.
