Ojén is a place in the hinterland of the Costa del Sol in the province of Málaga in southern Spain . It has 3702 inhabitants and is 309 m above sea level.

location

It is located on the A 355 about halfway between Marbella and Monda in the Sierra Blanca . It is 10 km to Marbella in the south and thus to European route 15 and to Benahavis in the southwest it is approx. 35 km.

history

Ojen was first mentioned in a document around the year 920 in the " Crónica de las hazañas de los emires cordobeses " (Chronicle of the Deeds of the Emirs of Córdoba) when Rahman III. put down a Christian rebellion against the muladis of Malaga in a struggle. In 1505, by order of the Archbishop of Seville, Diego de Deza, today's parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación (Our Lady of the Incarnation) was built. In 1807 Charles IV granted the place independence from the legal system of Marbella.
