The province of Cádiz ( Spanish Provincia de Cádiz , via Arabicقَادِس / qādis , Latin Gādēs and ancient Greek Γᾱ́δειρᾰ from Phoenician גדר "wall, fortress") is one of the eight provinces in the autonomous region of Andalusia in southern Spain . The capital is Cádiz , the largest city is Jerez de la Frontera . The inhabitants of the province call themselves Gaditanos.
Geographical location
The province of Cadiz is located in southwest Andalusia and has an area of 7,435.88 km². It borders the provinces of Huelva and Seville to the north, the province of Málaga to the east and the British overseas territory of Gibraltar to the south, as well as the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean .
Cádiz is the southernmost province on the Spanish mainland, its southern tip - the Punta de Tarifa - is the southernmost point of the European mainland. Due to its location by the sea, the province has a temperate climate compared to other parts of Andalusia (annual average temperature approx. 17.6 ° C with 3200 hours of sunshine). The coast has a total length of about 260 km. Of this, 138 km are beaches , the sand is fine and light, the water is clear.
