The province of Toledo is a Spanish province . It is located in the west of the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha and almost exactly in the middle of Spain .

It borders the provinces of Madrid , Cuenca , Ciudad Real , Badajoz , Cáceres and Ávila . Its average east-west extent is 170 kilometers, the average north-south extent 73 kilometers. It has a circumference of 848 kilometers and an area of ​​15,369.69 km², making it the third largest province of Castile-La Mancha. The Tagus flows through it from west to east . The Province of Toledo shares the Cabañeros Forest National Park with the Province of Ciudad Real .

Of the 694,844 inhabitants in 2019, only about 1/9 live in the capital Toledo (80,000 inhabitants). Talavera de la Reina in the extreme north-west of the province is currently the most populous city with around 90,000 inhabitants.

The province consists of 204 municipios , including the smallest municipality in Spain, Illán de Vacas , which according to the 2007 census has six inhabitants.
