The province of Jaén ( Spanish Provincia de Jaén ) is one of the eight provinces of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain . The capital is Jaén . It is located in the northeast of Andalusia and borders the Andalusian provinces of Córdoba and Granada as well as the provinces Ciudad Real and Albacete of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha . The province extends over 13,496.09 km², its population amounts to 633,564 people (2019), of which around 17% live in the capital. The province comprises 97 municipalities, which have been grouped into ten comarcas since 2003 .
Although Jaén is one of the lesser known provinces in Spain from a tourist point of view, the province has some interesting sights to offer:
- four natural parks : the Sierra de Andújar , Despeñaperros , the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas and the Sierra Mágina
- further nature reserves
- two important Renaissance cities: Úbeda and Baeza
- the annual chess - tournament in Linares regularly attracts the world's best players
- The Puente de Vadollano is a Roman stone arch bridge
The province of Jaén is one of the most important areas in the world for the production of olive oil that characterizes the province.
