history
Baeza goes back to the ancient Beatia (or Biatia by Claudius Ptolemy), a city of the Celtiberian Oretani in the Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis . Beatia was the bishopric to which the titular bishopric Beatia goes back.
After the conquest of large parts of Spain by the Arabs, Baeza was part of the Caliphate of Córdoba from 712 to 1068 and, after the collapse of the caliphate, belonged to the Taifa Emirate of Seville until the conquest by the Moroccan Almoravids in 1091 . During the turmoil at the Castilian Reconquista , 'Abd Allah al-Bayasi "El Baezano" managed to create an independent small emirate for a short time in 1224, which was conquered by Castile in 1226 . Baeza came under Arab rule again from 1232 to 1244 when the Taifa emir Muhammad I ibn Nasr incorporated it into his empire. After the Almohad -Herrschaft in Al-Andalus Muhammad had 1,232 in Arjona for Sultan to page. He soon gained control of Granada , Almería and Málaga and founded the Nasrid Empire of Granada in 1237 . In 1244/45 he had to recognize the feudal sovereignty of Castile, and with that Baeza finally came to Castile.
