Bailén is a Spanish municipality in the province of Jaén in Andalusia . It is located on the A-4 motorway and is a location for ceramics production , herb and wine growing and edible oil production . Although it is located inland, it is a tourist destination due to its historical significance.

history

The Romans succeeded in bringing the Carthaginians and their allies at Baecula, today's Bailén. Hasdrubal Barkas left in 208 BC. After the first battle at Baecula against the troops of Scipios the Elder, the battlefield as a loser.

From July 18 to 22, 1808, the site was the scene of the largest battle on the Iberian Peninsula during the Napoleonic Wars , the Battle of Bailén .
