Sierra de Andújar
The Sierra de Andújar is a mountain range and natural park in Andalusia . It is located in the Sierra Morena , directly east of the Sierra de Cardeña-Montoro in the province of Jaén , north of the town of Andújar . The nature park was established in 1989 and covers an area of 74,774 hectares. The highest peak is the Burcio del Pino at 1290 meters. The lowest valley locations are 196 meters. In the north the area merges into the Sierra Quintana.
In the Sierra de Andújar there are extensive oak forests ( holm oak , cork oak and Portuguese oak) - the largest in the Sierra Morena. There are also pine forests. In addition to red deer , fallow deer , mouflons and wild boars , the wildlife of the nature park also includes rare species such as wolves , Iberian lynxes , mongooses , wild cats , otters, black vultures and imperial eagles . Besides the Coto de Doñana National Park, it is the only area with a confirmed population of the rare wildcat, especially for the Iberian lynx . The area is mainly used for hunting, which promotes natural development.
