Ciudad Real is a province of Spain in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha . It has an area of 19,813.23 km² only 495,761 inhabitants (2019), of which about one eighth live in the capital Ciudad Real . In total, the province consists of 100 municipalities ( Municipios ).

The province of Ciudad Real is located in central Spain and borders on the province of Toledo in the north, the province of Cuenca in the northeast, the province of Albacete in the east, the provinces of Cordoba and Jaén in the south and the province of Badajoz in the west .
The province is bounded in the north by the hill country of the Montes de Toledo and in the south by the Sierra Morena . The main part of the province belongs to the Central Meseta .
The largest part belongs to the Comarca la Mancha and includes its sub-units Campo de Calatrava and Campo de Montiel .
The main river in the province is the Guadiana , which arises in the Ruidera lagoons in the east of the province. Important tributaries in the province are the Cigüela , the Záncara and the Jabalón .
The province's climate is continental with cold winters and very warm summers.
In the province lies the town of Almadén , in the vicinity of which the world's largest cinnabar deposits were originally found, which were mined in the Almadén mine.

Infrastructure and transport links
The province is crossed by the national road 4, which connects Madrid and Andalusia , from north ( Puerto Lápice ) to south ( Almuradiel ). The AVE express train stops in Ciudad Real and Puertollano.
