Amik

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amik was the mascot of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal .

description

The figure was a minimalist black beaver with a red sash around his stomach. The logo of the games was depicted on the sash, which symbolizes the ribbon of the Olympic medals. In addition to the red one, there was also a colorful version of the sash designed in the colors of the organizing committee.

Emergence

The mascot was designed by Guy St-Arnaud, Yvon Laroche and Pierre-Yves Pelletier, and the design team was headed by Georges Huel. To find a name for the character, a nationwide competition was held.

The word Amik comes from the language of the Algonquin Indians and describes the beaver. The motif was chosen to symbolize the kindness, patience and hard work that helped build Canada and make it great.

Others

Amik was not very well received by the Canadian population, and the mascot's merchandising items only sold poorly.
