Jogg in Lillehammer

Sjogg was the official mascot of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway .

description

Sjogg is an anthromorphic lynx in sportswear. The name Sjogg means “snow” in the Norwegian dialect spoken in Gudbrandsdalen , the valley where the youth games were held.

Emergence

In February 2012 a competition was called to choose a mascot for the 2016 Games in Lillehammer. Anyone between the ages of 15 and 25 could take part. The organizing committee of the event made a pre-selection and submitted a total of 33 drafts to a jury. This decided on three candidates, an elk, a weasel and a lynx, who were presented to the public on Facebook . In an online vote, the lynx, a design by Line Ansethmoen from Lillehammer, 18 years old at the time, was chosen as the official mascot.

Others

On the occasion of the opening of the youth games, a first day letter from the Norwegian Post with a picture of Sjogg appeared.

In addition to the medals, the winners of the competitions also received a Sjogg plush figure.
