Guadalajara is a province in central Spain , in the north of the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha . It extends over an area of ​​12,212.09 km² and has 257,762 inhabitants (2019), of which over 30% live in the capital Guadalajara . Neighboring provinces are Cuenca , Madrid , Segovia , Soria , Saragossa and Teruel . There are a total of 288 parishes in Guadalajara , almost three quarters of which are villages with fewer than 200 inhabitants.

Important sources of income are the rye -, vegetable - and potato cultivation in the mountains and the numerous flocks of sheep . There are also two large hydropower plants on the Tajo River with a total output of more than 1200 megawatts . The Trillo nuclear power plant is also located in the province.
