Alovera is a Spanish municipality in the province of Guadalajara in the comarca of Campiña de Guadalajara in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha .
history
The history of Alovera goes back to Roman times . In 1999 a small Roman knoll was discovered during renovation work on the Church of San Miguel. This turned out to be a grave monument from the 1st or 2nd century. The dome is 57 cm high, 40 cm wide and 80 cm deep.
The presence of the Visigoths in Alovera is indicated by the findings of Alovera Fibulae , which can currently be admired in the Museo Arqueológico Nacional de España , the National Archaeological Museum of Spain. These are two aquiliform fibulas made of gold , bronze and glass in the cloisonné technique. They date from the 6th century and were used as brooches to attach clothes.
The church of San Miguel dates from the 16th century . Between 1569 and 1587 the master Nicolás de Ribero was responsible for the work, in collaboration with Juan de Buega and Juan Ballesteros. The high altar , attributed to classical Mannerism , was made a posteriori in the 17th century. Next to the main altarpiece is that of San Gregorio , which was made by students of Juan de Borgoña and Juan Correa de Vivar .
