Sacedón is a central Spanish town and municipality ( municipio ) with only 1,533 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the province of Guadalajara in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha . The municipality belongs to the sparsely populated region of the Serranía Celtibérica .
Location and climate
The almost 740 m high place Sacedón is located in the center of the Alcarria landscape approx. 2 km southeast of the Tagus or approx. 200 m south of the Entrepeñas reservoir in the north of the southern part of the Iberian plateau ( meseta ) . The provincial capital Guadalajara is a good 56 km (driving distance) in a north-westerly direction; the lovely town of Pastrana is about 40 km south-west. The climate in winter is temperate, while in summer it is warm to hot; the rather low amounts of precipitation (approx. 425 mm / year) fall - with the exception of the almost rainless summer months - distributed over the whole year.

As a result of the mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting loss of jobs, the population of the municipality has decreased significantly since the middle of the 20th century ( rural exodus ). The municipality also includes the hamlets of Poyos and Córcoles , which were incorporated in the 1950s and 1960s , of which the former has been deserted (despoblado) for several years .
economy
The people of earlier centuries lived mainly as self-sufficiency from agriculture and livestock farming , whose durable products (cheese, sausage, animal skins and wool) could be exchanged or sold at traveling traders. But also craftsmen , day laborers and service providers settled in the small town.
history
The Celts , Romans , Visigoths and even the Moors left no usable traces on the municipality. In the second half of the 11th century the latter were by the army of King Alfonso VI. driven out of the region by León ( reconquista ) ; then began the phase of repopulation ( repoblación ) by Christians from many parts of the Iberian Peninsula . The first written mention of the place name comes from the year 1167, but it only received town charter (villazgo) in 1553 . In 1655 Philip IV gave the city and its surroundings into the hands of Don Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar de Silva y Mendoza, 4th Duke of Pastrana and 8th Duke of El Infantado .
Attractions
- The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción with its bell tower (campanario) was built in the 16./17. Century. A renaissance portal on the south side leads into the rib - vaulted three-aisled but overall rather unadorned-looking hall church . Since there is no large main altar, the most important piece of equipment is a font - probably contemporary - in relief (pila bautismal) .
- On the outskirts there is a copy of Trujillo's court column (rollo) .
- Surroundings
- Approx. 5km east lie the ruins of the former Cistercian - monastery Monsalud .
