Fuentelsaz is a municipality in the Spanish province of Guadalajara in the autonomous region of Castile-La Mancha . It is located about halfway between Madrid and Saragossa , 30 km south of Calatayud and 30 km north of Molina de Aragón , on the border of the provinces of Guadalajara and Aragón.

The place is located in the central area of ​​the Old Castilian chain in the transition zone to the Central Cordillera .

A geological profile 500 m north of the village is the Global Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP: corresponds roughly to a type profile) of the Aalenium , the period from 171.6–175.6 million years BC. BC, one of the four chronographic lower levels of the Middle Jurassic .

Historical naming

The chronicler Juan Ruiz de Molina describes the origin of the name from the existing spring = Fuente and the old willow trees = Salix (lat) ultimately "spring on the willows"
