The village of Viana de Jadraque, located about 875  m above sea level, is located on the Río Salado on the west side of the Iberian Mountains . The provincial capital Guadalajara is approx. 67 km (driving distance) in a south-westerly direction; the lovely town of Sigüenza is only 21 km to the northeast. Due to the mechanization of agriculture , the abandonment of small farms and the resulting loss of jobs, the population of the municipality has declined sharply since the middle of the 20th century ( rural exodus ).

economy

Due to the altitude of the community, farming was only possible to a very limited extent. That is why they devoted themselves - primarily to self-sufficiency - to livestock farming , whose durable or preserved products (animal skins and wool as well as cheese and sausages) were exchanged with traveling traders on the Ruta de la Lana or sold to them.

history

Remains of a Celtiberian castrum have been discovered in the municipality . However, there is a lack of knowledge from Roman and Visigothic times. In 712 Islamic-Moorish armies conquered the area; the Moors / Berbers ruled it until the reconquest ( reconquista ) in 1085 as King Alfonso VI. of León pushed the borders of the Christian sphere of influence up to the height of Toledo . In the 15th century the place came under the dominance of the city of Jadraque .
