Ruta de la Lana

The Ruta de la Lana , also Camino de la Lana , is a medieval traffic, trade and pilgrimage route in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula , which crosses the Mediterranean coastal region near Alicante with the northern inland area a good 600 km away at about 860  m high the town of Burgos . It leads through parts of New ( Castile-La Mancha ) and Old Castile ( Castile-León ), z. Partly through areas and places that today belong to the poorly populated Serranía Celtibérica ; it is therefore considered to be the loneliest of all the Way of St.

history

In the Middle Ages, Santiago pilgrims and wool merchants ( lana = " wool ") used the path and its branches with their carts and carts to bring wool and other preserved goods (cheese, sausages) from the mountain villages in the hinterland to the markets of the cities . Today's route follows the description of a Santiago pilgrim from 1624; it was established in 1993 and is marked with yellow arrows.

Route

The course of the route is not very difficult in normal weather conditions, but leads through treeless and shadowless open landscapes as well as through places around 1000  m high (e.g. Caracena ), where fog, rain and rather moderate accommodation and catering options make the efforts of the Can enlarge the hike. A branch line (Camino de Requena) coming from Valencia joins the main line in Monteagudo de las Salinas .
