Elda is a Spanish city in the autonomous region of Valencia in the province of Alicante , around 40 km northwest of Alicante and the Costa Blanca on the Vinalopó river . As of January 1, 2019, Elda had 52,618 inhabitants and, together with Petrel, forms a metropolitan area with around 90,000 inhabitants.
history
The locations of the first settlers come from the Neolithic Age. The first city was built in the sixth century BC, in the time of the Iberians.
economy
Elda, together with nearby Elche, is the center of the Spanish shoe and leather industry. The Spanish Shoe Museum is also located here .
politics
Mayor of the city is Adela Pedrosa from the Partido Popular (PP) .
