Petrer (Spanish: Petrel ) is a southeastern Spanish municipality ( municipio ) with 34,276 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019) in the province of Alicante in the Valencian Community .

geography

Petrer is located near the Costa Blanca in southeastern Spain. The center of Sant Joan d'Alacant is about 35 km northwest of Alicante and about 28 km north of Elche . Together with Elda , the city forms a metropolitan area with around 90,000 inhabitants.

In the north the municipality borders on Sax , in the northeast on Castalla , in the east on Agost , in the south on Novelda and Montfort del Cid and in the west on Elda. The Autovía A-31 motorway runs north of the city center.
