Beach paradise

Villajoyosa or in Valencian La Vila Joiosa (also often referred to as "La Vila") is a city on the Spanish Costa Blanca . It is geographically located between Benidorm and Alicante .

Cityscape

Villajoyosa has a well-preserved historical center. The brightly painted houses, which can be found as city portraits on almost all postcards, are famous. Villajoyosa has a large sandy beach, a market hall that is open every day during the week and a harbor that is approached by fishing boats as well as private yachts and smaller excursion boats.

Festivals

Every year at the end of July, the Moros y Cristianos festival is celebrated in Villajoyosa . As in many Spanish cities, the Reconquista of the expulsion of the Moors by the Christians is commemorated. The highlight of the celebrations is a sea battle right in front of the beach.

economy

Villajoyosa does not have a lot of industry, the main one being tourism. Villajoyosa is also known for the Valor chocolate factory with an attached chocolate museum, which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2006. The Asturian prince couple came to visit on this occasion. The city has set up a small museum as a result of this visit.

Transport links

The Carreterra (country road) N-332 ran right through the town until a few years ago, which has led to major traffic problems. There is now a bypass that leads directly to Benidorm. There is an entrance to the A7 (E 15). The narrow-gauge railway Alicante - Denia runs over a viaduct in the town center. Immediately next to it, the train station is easy to reach.
