San Miguel de Salinas is a municipality in the province of Alicante ( Valencian Community ) in Spain . It is about ten kilometers from Torrevieja , had 6,034 inhabitants on January 1, 2019 and consists of the village center and some associated settlements.

New spatial plan

In April 2003 a new spatial plan ("Plan General de Ordenacion Urbana (PGOU)") for San Miguel de Salinas was approved by the municipality. The plan provides for the construction of 50,000 to 70,000 new apartments and assumes a population growth of the community from currently 7,000 to up to 150,000 inhabitants.

The entire area south of San Miguel de Salinas, between the town center and the settlements of Las Filipinas and Ciudad de las Comunicaciones is to be developed. A total of 1,500 hectares of agricultural land are to be converted into building land. This plan has provoked opposition from various citizens' groups. This rejection is justified u. a. with the fact that the infrastructure of the community is already overloaded.
