La Nucia (in Valencian La Nucia [la nu'sia]) is a municipality in the Comunitat Valenciana , Spain . It is located in the province of Alicante and has 18,603 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).

geography

La Nucia is located in a valley between Benidorm and Callosa de Ensarriá , around eight kilometers from Benidorm and thus the coast. The place is located on a headland with a view of the Mediterranean Sea, 51 km north of Alicante . The municipality of La Nucia borders the cities of Benidorm, Altea , Callosa de Ensarriá, Polop and Alfaz del Pi .

La Nucía can be reached via the new four-lane CV-70 from Benidorm.

La Nucia consists of the original town center and more than 24 peripheral new developments (urbanizaciones): Panorama, Varadero, Floriana, Holiday Club, Finca Martina, Las Ruedas, Arcos Este, La Torre, Arcos Norte, Sol Saliente, Venta del Aire, San Rafael , Barranc Fondo, Nucia Park, Entrepinos, Patrax, El Valle, Montebello, El Torrent, Puerto Azul, Maylan, Azagador, Los Rosales, La Colina and El Tossal.

history

The city's name comes from Arabic and was Naziha, which means "lovely". At the beginning of the 17th century it belonged to Baron Alfonso Fajardo of Benidorm. La Nucia became an independent parish in 1705.
