Ibi is a Spanish city in the Valencian Community and the Alicante Province . The city is located 37 km north of Alicante on the Costa Blanca . Ibi has 23,489 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It is famous for its December 28th Innocent Day , a humorous re- enactment of a coup known as the Festa dels Enfarinats . This is a custom that has lasted there for over 200 years and on the one hand includes a large folk festival, on the other hand it serves to collect donations for charitable purposes (taxes are collected from banks and shops). The so-called rebels refer to themselves as "Els Enfarinats" (dt. The powdered ones ). They conquer the city dressed up in bright colors and armed with flour, eggs, firecrackers, etc., promulgating all sorts of ridiculous laws, collecting fines, removing the mayor and messing around with their opponents, the group "La Oposicio". At the end of the day, the extracted money is distributed to charitable organizations. The custom was banned under the Francisco Franco dictatorship and was revived in 1981.
Together with the neighboring towns of Onil and Castalla , Ibi forms the center of the Spanish toy industry . The toy museum Museo Valenciano del Juguete has been in Ibi since 1990 .
