Museo Valenciano del Juguete

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Museo Valenciano del Juguete ( Catalan Museu Valencià del Joguet ) is a toy museum in the city of Ibi , Alicante province in the Valencian Community .

The museum near the church square was located in a two-story building from the 18th century in the center of Ibi's old town until 2009.

It was opened in its original location on December 20, 1990 and housed a collection of around 4,000 tin toys from the 17th and 18th centuries, which were donated by the sister of the last owner, Aurora Pérez Caballero Pérez , on the ground floor and upstairs .

In 2009 the museum moved to the former factory building of the historical toy manufacturer of the Payá brothers and reopened on November 29, 2013.

Trivia

The first toy manufacturer in Ibi was the family company Payá, which, as a so-called tinker (Spanish: hojalatero), first repaired, manufactured and sold household items throughout the region. Rafael Payá also made scale tin toys suitable for children, which peaked in 1905. The toy factory in Ibi became known throughout Spain under the name "Payá Hermanos" . The creation of the Valencian Toy Museum in 1990 illustrates the role Ibi had in the world of toy manufacturers.
