Joachim Christoph Friedrich von Jeetze (born September 16, 1673 in Hohenwulsch in the Altmark , † September 11, 1752 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian field marshal .

Joachim Christoph Friedrich was the son of Joachim Parum von Jeetze († February 9, 1709 in bust ) and his wife Dorothea Elisabeth, born von Vinzelberg (* May 2, 1650; † February 1, 1692).

Military career

At first Jeetze served as a page at the court of Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg . After the death of the Great Elector, Jeetze joined the military and was employed by the “Margrave of Brandenburg” regiment . After experiencing the sieges of Rheinberg , Kaiserswerth and Bonn , he was made an ensign . Jeetze also distinguished himself in the following military conflicts and was appointed second lieutenant in 1693 and prime lieutenant in 1697 .

During the War of the Spanish Succession in 1702, Jeetze was initially used for the renewed siege of Kaiserswerth and other places. In this context he was promoted to staff captain. In 1703 he served in front of Rheinberg and Geldern. At the Battle of Höchstädt in 1704 Jeetze was badly wounded by a shot in the abdomen. In the following years until 1709 he served in the Italian theater of war, in Provence, in Savoy and in France.

Shortly before the Treaty of Utrecht he was promoted to major . In this capacity he took part in the siege of Stralsund in 1715 . Jeetze was then promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1719 he was promoted to colonel . As a result, Jeetze served from August 1725 first as commander of the “von Lottum” regiment and from the end of December 1727 as commander of the “von Finckenstein” regiment in Bartenstein . On February 14, 1733, Jeetze became chief of the “von Thiele” infantry regiment , which has since been called “von Jeetze”. With his regiment he took part in the Rhine campaign and was appointed major general on the occasion of the review near Stettin in 1737 .

Jeetze excelled particularly during the first two Silesian Wars . In the battle of Mollwitz he commanded the left wing of the first meeting. Then he besieged Brieg with his regiment . Due to the services acquired during this time, Jeetze was honored by Friedrich II with the Order of the Black Eagle .

On November 3, 1741, at the age of 68, he was appointed lieutenant general as successor to Field Marshal Curt Christoph Graf von Schwerin as military governor of the Peitz Fortress . He was also the governor of Wollmirstädt and Wanzleben .

In the battle of Chotusitz (1742) Jeetze commanded a corps . During the year 1744 Jeetze stood before Prague . On January 19, 1745 he was appointed general of the infantry . As the commander of a corps, he fought at Habelschwerdt , Hohenfriedberg and Thrush . During the storming of Kesseldorf his regiment captured numerous cannons and decided the battle with their intervention.

On May 21, 1746, Jeetze received permission from the king to retire to his property due to his old age and health. In 1747 Jeetze was appointed field marshal general. While Friedrich II was invited to Potsdam, Jeetze suffered a stroke and died there. He was buried on Hohenwulsch.

On May 13, 1708 Jeetze married Dorothea Sophie von Borstell (born June 18, 1689 in Groß Schwarzlosen ; † May 28, 1759 in Stendal ). The couple had four sons and one daughter. The sons all became soldiers.
