Founding of the village in the Middle Ages and changing owners

The place, which was laid out as a street village by the Wends and was called Villa Voltitz, Hogen Wulzkow, Wolzke and Wülske in the Middle Ages , traces its name back to the Wendish "vlecko" (= wolf). On February 11, 1345, Margrave Ludwig awarded the village of Woltz to Könekin, Thydeke and Henning von Wolez. Thydeke von Woltitz sold elevations to the citizens of Schartau in Stendal on June 5, 1358, which were also assured to them in 1366 and 1377 and were carried out from this place on January 22, 1390 and August 2, 1409. In 1375 the farmers had six hooves here , of which they paid the priest a tithing and the dietrich (Thydeke) von Wulzkow and Jan von Rundstedt bede and lease. Thydeke von Wulzkow owned a yard with 3½ free hooves, Jan von Rundstedt one with seven hooves, Arnd Grassow one with three hooves and Kuneke Wultzke one with four hooves; these owners also lived on these farms themselves. From Hohenwulsch the cathedral monastery in Tangermünde was given 3½ pieces on June 13, 1377 and one mark and 24 Sch on August 23, 1423  . , 2 Sch. Rye, 2 Sch. Barley and four Sch. Oats instructed to build the two control stations at Deetz and Wittenmoor.

Hohenwulsch as a manor

When the fiefdoms of von Wulzke were open, Margrave Johann 1436–1441 awarded those of Jeetze the third part at the court in Hohenwulsch. In 1479 they already owned the whole village in all fairness. Although all of Jeetze had total hands on it, the Hohenwulsch line claimed all rights and lived alone in the two knight seats located here. After one estate had been owned by the von Wintzelbergs for 17 years, Lorentz von Jeetze combined both estates into one in 1634. Hohenwulsch later developed particularly through the influence of Field Marshal Joachim Christoph von Jeetze . He is buried in the vault of the church he restored, in which his monument is located. The church itself was built from boulders in the 13th century. From his granddaughter Sophie, von Levetzow's wife , the von Rohr family inherited this estate, which is one of the most important in the Altmark.

The manor in Hohenwulsch was taken over by Friedrich von Levetzow in 1775 . In the period 1803–1945 it belonged to the von Rohr family . The Friedrichsfleiß district was founded in the 18th century.

On September 30, 1928, the Hohenwulsch estate was merged with the rural communities of Hohenwulsch and Friedrichsfleiß to form the rural community of Hohenwulsch.

The current district of Beesewege was first mentioned in a document as Bysewede in 1273 . The original municipality of Beesewege was dissolved on July 1, 1950 by incorporation in Garlipp . On July 1, 1973, the district of Beesewege was then assigned to the community of Hohenwulsch.

Until December 31, 2009 Hohenwulsch was an independent municipality with the associated districts of Beesewege, Friedrichsfleiß, Friedrichshof and Schmoor.

Incorporation into the city of Bismark (Altmark)

On June 2, 2009, the municipality council of Hohenwulsch decided to approve an area change agreement, which dissolved its municipality and became part of a new unified municipality called the city of Bismark (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

In the united communities, now called locality, local councils were formed with a local mayor.
