The Stendaler Eisenbahn-AG , which operated as Stendaler Kleinbahn-AG until November 25, 1942 , was a small railway company in the east of the Altmark in the Prussian province of Saxony .

The Kleinbahn-AG Stendal – Arendsee , which operated the Stendal – Arendsee railway since 1908 , changed its name to Stendaler Kleinbahn-AG with effect from November 23, 1915 .

Stendaler Kleinbahn AG

In 1921, after the opening of a branch line from Peulingen to Bismark, the company's route network was 71 kilometers long. In 1924, the Stendaler Kleinbahn-AG took over the Stendal – Arneburg railway line, which had meanwhile been converted to standard gauge, from the Kleinbahn-AG Stendal-Arneburg railway , which expanded the rail network to 84 kilometers.

Six steam locomotives, two railcars, 15 passenger cars, three pack wagons and 29 freight cars were available for operation. The bus company of Altmärkische Kraftverkehrs-GmbH , which opened up the south-western part of the Stendal district , was connected to the company .

After the Second World War

After the end of the war, the Sächsische Provinzbahnen GmbH took over at the end of 1946 and from August 15, 1948 the Association of Publicly Owned Enterprises (VVB) of the Saxony-Anhalt transport system took over the operation. In the last decades of its existence from April 1, 1949, the Stendal Railway belonged to the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

The Peulingen – Bismark line was discontinued in 1951, the Stendal – Arneburg line in 1972 and the Stendal – Arendsee line in stages between 1978 and 1985. The Arneburger Kleinbahn was partially reactivated, on which part of the route was used for the Stendal – Niedergörne railway line that was built to connect the Stendal nuclear power station planned at the time .
