history
The parish village of Meßdorf was first mentioned in a document in 844 and was founded by the Corvey monastery in Westphalia. The name Methisdorpe is passed down from the year 1060 , in 1541 it was already called Metzdorf . Messdorf was a bailiwick with which the von Bartensleben were enfeoffed.
The municipality of Meßdorf originally belonged to the district of Osterburg and was incorporated into the district of Kalbe (Milde) on July 25, 1952 . After the dissolution of the district on January 1st, 1988, the community came to the Osterburg district , after its dissolution on July 1st, 1994 to the current district of Stendal . Until December 31, 2009, Meßdorf remained an independent municipality with the associated districts of Biesenthal, Schönebeck and Späningen.
The municipality council of the municipality of Meßdorf decided on June 4, 2009 to approve an area change agreement, which dissolved its municipality and became part of a new unified municipality called the city of Bismark (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.
A local council with seven members, including the local mayor, was formed in the commune and now the village of Meßdorf.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on August 18, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.
Blazon : “Split in silver; at the front of the gap a gold-armored, red-tongued red eagle; at the back of the gap a black rooted oak with four green leaves, in stakes. "
The half mark eagle symbolizes the affiliation of the four villages of the municipality to the Altmark, one of the ancestral lands of the Mark Brandenburg. The coat of arms is based on the Stendal eagle. The places belonged to this district in the 18th century and today again after the district reform of 1994. The four oak leaves represent the districts of Biesenthal, Meßdorf, Schönebeck and Späningen. The four pages of equal size are intended to underline the population's desire for equality.
The oak, sacred tree of the Teutons and a symbol of strength and durability, served as a timber reservoir for the typical half-timbered construction, for the manufacture of equipment and furniture and especially as a windbreak for the villages. It has been proven custom since 1686 that married couples were obliged to plant six oaks at the wedding. Even today, mighty old oaks can be seen as witnesses of the past in all four districts of the municipality. The roots in the coat of arms indicate a close connection between the residents and their homeland, the village tradition, the soil and nature.
The colors of Meßdorf are red - silver (white).
