history

Today's Wolibórz was founded as a forest hoof village by German colonists at the end of the 13th century and named after the locator Volprechtsdorf . It belonged to the Glatzer Land , with which it shared the history of its political and ecclesiastical affiliation. It was first mentioned in writing in 1336 and at that time it belonged to the Neurode lordship, which was owned by Hans Wüstehube von Goldstein . He sold Neurode and the associated villages in 1347 to Hans von Donyn . A parish church is documented for 1384. In 1465 the Neuroder possessions fell as a settled fiefdom to the Bohemian King Georg von Podiebrad , who gave the rule of Neurode to the Bohemian knight Georg Stillfried-Rattonitz . In 1628 the Volpersdorfer Dominium was spun off from the Neurode lordship and sold to the imperial councilor Johann Angelo von Morganthe, from whom it passed to Gisbert von der Hemm and Hemmstein in 1665. A glassworks had been in operation in the Zeilberge district since around 1660, for which the glass master Georg Schürer is documented for 1667 and the glass master Christian Preußler for 1680 . Operations probably ceased in the late 1690s for reasons unknown.

After the Silesian wars Volpersdorf 1763 coincided with the county Glatz after Hubertusburg of Prussia . In 1793 Volpersdorf acquired Count Anton Alexander von Magnis on Eckersdorf. Due to his success in sheep breeding and innovations in agricultural operations as well as the establishment of the “Neuroder coal and clay works”, Volpersdorf experienced an economic boom. In the course of time the colonies of Köpprich , Waldgrund, Legengrund, Glasehütte, Wustung and Leeden developed. After the reorganization of Prussia, Volpersdorf was part of the province of Silesia from 1815 , which was divided into counties. The district of Glatz was responsible from 1816 to 1853, and the district of Neurode between 1854 and 1932 . After its dissolution in 1933, Volpersdorf was again part of the Glatz district until 1945.

In 1900 Volpersdorf received a railway connection to the Eulengebirgsbahn , which led from Reichenbach via Silberberg and Volpersdorf to Mittelsteine . From there there was a connection to the Dittersbach - Glatz mountain railway .

As a result of the Second World War, Volpersdorf fell to Poland in 1945 and was renamed Wolibórz . The German population was largely expelled in 1946. Some of the newly settled residents were displaced from eastern Poland . In the years 1975 to 1998 Wolibórz belonged to the Wałbrzych Voivodeship (German Waldenburg ).

Due to its location in an extensive forest area, Volpersdorf is a popular starting point for hikes in the Owl Mountains. The Hoher Stein mountain in the Volpersdorf district is 815 m high.

Attractions

  • The parish church, first mentioned in 1384, is consecrated to Saint James the Elder . Particularly noteworthy is the late baroque ship's pulpit from 1780. You can see three apostles pulling the net filled with fish into the boat; On the back wall of the pulpit there is a relief of the Good Shepherd and on the sound cover Moses is shown with his sheep at the burning bush .
  • The chapel consecrated to Saint Barbara in the Przygórze ( Köpprich ) district was built from 1938 to 1939 for the population, which had grown significantly due to the Rudolfgrube. The altar and the benches come from the chapel of the Glatzer Lyzeum, which was used for other purposes by the National Socialists.
