Location in Saxony-Anhalt

Garlipp is a district of the town of Bismark (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

geography

The village of Garlipp in the Altmark is about 18 kilometers west of Stendal in the immediate vicinity of the small town of Bismark (Altmark) . The hilly area around Garlipp belongs to the terminal moraine arc that extends north of the Secantsgraben towards Stendal.

history

In 1188 the place, which was laid out as a Rundling , appears for the first time in a document as Garlip (Slavic origin). The village's stone church also dates from the 12th century. The organ in the said church is a tourist attraction. It is dated to the year 1687. It was built by a Stendaler, Johann Druch.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Beesewege was incorporated.

Until December 31, 2009 Garlipp was an independent municipality.

The municipal council of the municipality of Garlipp decided on June 17, 2009 to approve an area change agreement, which dissolved its municipality and became part of a new unified municipality called the city of Bismark (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

A local council with three members including the local mayor is formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Garlipp.

Attractions

Probably the greatest attraction in Garlipp is the restored organ. Since March 2010 work has been carried out on the restoration of the foundling memorial , which is located on the former market square opposite the church. The six boulders are each 2.5 m high and arranged in a triangle. The monument was neglected in the maintenance of the GDR. The restoration will be paid for with funds from the economic stimulus package and is expected to be completed in summer 2011.

politics

The last mayor of Garlipp was Waldemar Schreiber.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on July 14, 2008 by the district.

Blazon : "Split of silver and green with a golden shield head, in the shield head a green oak branch with an acorn and two leaves pointing into the upper corners, at the front at the gap a half golden armored red eagle with a knocked out red tongue, at the back a golden ear between two fallen heads golden scythe blades. "

The colors of Garlipp are derived from the color of the main motif and the tincture of the shield: green - silver (white).

The oak symbolizes strength and stability and was considered a sacred tree by the Germans. The village is embedded in wooded areas with predominantly oak vegetation. With the halved Brandenburg eagle, the affiliation to the Altmark, an ancestral home of the Mark Brandenburg, is made clear. The scythes with the ear indicate the rural tradition of the place, which has been preserved to this day in the agricultural village.

flag

The flag is green and white (1: 1) striped (landscape format: stripes running horizontally, lengthwise format: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are two biogas plants in Garlipp. These are operated by the Danpower Group.

Transport links

Garlipp is on the L 15, the connecting road from Bismark (Altmark) to Stendal . The nearest train station is in the neighboring town of Kläden (Stendal – Salzwedel railway line ).
